It's been a good day! Greg cleaned the duplex really well and took pictures to post on Craigslist to find somebody who'll rent from us and get us out of the last half of our lease. He also emailed the landlord to let her know we're moving out in early December (like six weeks from now, holy cow!!) and we're looking for new tenants to lease the place. She called him around 6 o'clock to say "so, you're moving out huh?" and Greg said "yeah, I guess you got my email" only to find out she hadn't checked her email until she got six calls wanting to rent the place and got into an argument with at least one of the people because she didn't realize our place was being advertised. It's a great rental, three bedroom, three bathroom, huge master bedroom (18x18) with a walk in closet for well under a thousand a month, dead easy to rent out, but she never advertises so they sit empty for ages. So anyways, now she wants to know exactly how early we can be out of here. We've settled on December 7th, hopefully the house is done (eep!). If nothing else my parents live here and we can stay in the guest room for a week or so until we can officially move in. With any luck we'll be able to get access to the garage or something to store our stuff while we're waiting because as of right now, if everything goes perfectly, we're giving ourselves 7 days to move from one house to the other. I'm going to ask for some vacation days, but not sure if I'll get them. We'll be in the thick of Christmas season and cold and flu season is busy time for pharmacists.

Speaking of cold and flu season, if I get ONE more phone call asking when someone can come in to get their seasonal flu shot I will go nuts. I am not looking forward to when we get the H1N1 vaccine in, yikes! Though thankfully the earlier rumors weren't totally true, it's not just a nasal spray. They're making a nasal spray, a preservative free, and a multidose vial. Strangely enough I am WAY more comfortable giving someone a shot than spraying something up their nose. Probably because the nasal sprays cause stuff to leak out your nose and snot on your hands is NOT fun. Blech.

I finally got to walk in the house! I'm the very last one, Greg took mom and my brother and his girlfriend and my little sister through on Saturday (I got called into work early due to a sick pharmacist. 11 to 6 at one store, drive like a bat out of hell to a store 40 minutes away to close it at 10) We have walls and a roof and the weather is officially not a barrier to working on the house so we're still on track!

The holiday schedule finally came out. I work Thanksgiving, which I know they think is doing me a favor, but it's not. My family goes to Chicago every Thanksgiving and Greg's family is coming up to spend Christmas with us. So I could duck out for a 7 hour shift on Christmas without changing plans, I can't work Thanksgiving without skipping the holiday. It has to be easy to find someone who would switch me holidays right? We have to work one or the other every other year, and tons of people would rather be off Christmas right? I'm gonna try to get that sorted out this week.

I made a frittata for dinner for the first time. It actually turned out really well and I'm thinking I have a new way to use leftovers rather than just reheating them until I'm sick of them. Leftover stir fry (my favorite easy meal) would be totally delicious worked into a frittata. Mostly I like it when I can make a meal Greg likes because he's the cook (he makes the most delicious French bread ever)

And in sadder news, please keep Greg's family in your prayers. His aunt just had a baby two weeks ago and wound up in the hospital soon after with bronchitis/swine flu and in ICU on a ventilator. She's off the vent and they've moved her out of the ICU and she is recovering, but the family could definitely use all the prayers they can get right now.

I spent about three hours today unstringing lights from our Christmas tree and then another three with Greg unstringing more. We also went to Target and bought lights since the whole "prelit" thing was crap. The tree is six years old and I spent days upon days last year tracking down all the burnt out lights and it still didn't work so now it's a plain fake tree. We spent about twenty minutes looking for a second package to match the first we'd decided on, discovered that we'd grabbed the last set, and said "screw it, let's get the plain lights".

We set the tree up and Mikey promptly climbed two thirds of the way up it. I tried to get a picture but he jumped down before I found my camera. No matter, he'll do it again before the season is over.

I woke up this morning with a cold. It's basically miserable and I had no cold medicine in the house so I bought some to stock Greg's cabinet with at Target. Boy doesn't know what a properly stocked medicine cabinet is. If I'm sick I want to be able to reach in there and get something to make it better, not run to the store and fight with everything to feel better. I get sick every year because mom teaches fourth grade, I spend a bunch of time in hospitals and around sick people at work, and Sophie brings home all the junior high germs and drinks out of our water glasses to generously share them with the rest of the house.

Mikey is kneading my belly right now. I can only see half the screen so blame typos on him.

I have a dinner with Schnucks tomorrow and an open house/look at our cool pharmacies! thing. I feel like crap and don't want to go, but I really want a job offer so I'll suffer through. I wonder what I should wear. I'm saving my nice suit for the real interview, but I want to look professional and nice. We're also eating italian s0 something that hides marinara stains would be nice. (totally typed that last sentence with cat butt in my face) The worst part will be the pharmacy tour because it's in my old store and everyone that works there still knows me. I mean, it'll be kinda nice because the managers will say hi and the pharmacists know me and they mostly all loved me at that store, but still, kinda weird. Also the fact that I met the recruiters at the job fair and they said "Corinne, I know that name... wait didn't we offer you an internship last year?" and I had to be like "Yeah I turned down one of three spots in the St. Louis area to take a Walgreens internship and they basically give one to anyone who has a pulse and shows a vague interest in pharmacy, but you know, I learned my lesson!" That and the fact they pretty much offered me my own store right off the bat, but only in locations two hours away. Bleh on that.

Tomorrow Greg will hopefully get the lights and garland strung up while I'm schmoozing with pharmacy bigwigs and then Thursday we'll hang ornaments. I should also try to write another section of my paper sometime this week so I stop feeling so bad for being a procrastinator. Really this whole capstone project sucks. I realize most advanced students have to do a thesis and it's a lot more work, but really I'm just whiny and I'm not gonna stop.

I'm gonna go eat cookie dough, drink a glass of wine, and go to bed.

I got a lot of christmas shopping done today!

for Mom I got a Nintendo DS and a package of two puzzle games (I'm splurging on her this year, she totally deserves it)

for my little sister I got a set of ten Sephora sparkly lip glosses so she stops stealing my lip stuff

for my brother I got a pack of six highball glasses and six whiskey (or something) glasses on clearance at Linens and Things. Hopefully they're sturdier than the stuff he used to have

for my brother's girlfriend I'm getting a set of Philosophy bath stuff (so my brother won't steal it from her) in delicious cookie and cake scents

I desperately want to get Zach the Lego Castle dwarf mine set, but I think he might still be a bit young. Also I can't promise Greg and I wouldn't open it and play with it. I'm thinking we shouldn't have kids for quite awhile yet because we'd just play with all their toys.

The doll dress I want to get Bella is backordered until January so I need to find something else for her.

And I need to shop for Greg's family and probably my dad. That'll be fun...

Greg and I also bought Christmas decorations today at Target. Too bad our tree still doesn't light up. I'm going to unstring it tomorrow and just get strands of multicolored lights for it. Whatever, it was a free tree from my basement, I'm not gonna argue. We got pretty brightly colored shatterproof ornaments to keep the tree from being completely Madame Alexander Hallmark ornaments (I've gotten them every year for a long time, but they're pretty girly) and if the cat behaves with them, there are some glass ornaments we want, but I doubt we'll be able to get them with Mikey on patrol.

I also want to get some outdoor lights and maybe a lawn decoration (spiral tree or something) to decorate the porch.

I want a bagel with cream cheese and lox but it's 10:30 PM and we have no bagels in the house. I'd be willing to eat toast with the toppings, but we have no bread. Drat

My poor puppy is hurt. She jumped off my brother's lap to get at a toy and tore some ligaments in her back legs. We had to give her an acid reducer, and two pain pills twice a day. She loved us. Then, about five days later we had to take her back to the vet because her leg was getting better but her ear was full of goop and smelled like ass. Turns out she has something stuck in her ear and it caused a yeast infection in her ear. Yay! So now we have to give her ear medicine everyday too (and they shaved part of her ear hair to look in there, she looks so silly) and after two weeks we take her back to see if the swelling's down and they can pull out whatever she has stuck in there. And then she stopped eating. She ate less over the past two days or so and today she hasn't touched her food. We'll wait and see how she is tomorrow but we may be making ANOTHER call to the vet. Poor puppy.

The Christmas season is upon us. Greg has invited basically his entire extended family to his house for the holiday. This means he and I will be playing host to his mom and dad, his brother and his wife, his twin brother, his aunt and uncle and their two kids, and possibly his Grandma. So basically we will be hosting our first family Christmas before we're even a married couple. It'll be interesting to say the least. But we have a tree, even if the lights don't technically work (Greg's going after them with his multimeter to find the problem, I love my dorky engineer), we decided on a Nativity Set (After I explained what a Nativity set was and why I wanted one) and it's super adorable (http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3150656) - It's Playmobil! I figure it's silly and fun and perfect for us and when I decide to buy a nicer set that's not technically a children's toy, our children can play with it! Heavens knows I've bought books for our hypothetical children (There's a Monster at the End of this Book and Z is for Zamboni) why not toys!

I need a present for my godson and his big sister. I'm definitely getting them "Here Come the ABC's" and "Here Come the 123's" by They Might Be Giants. Greg and I love TMBG so much, we HAVE to get my adorable cousins their kid CD's. I think maybe for Bella a flower girl dress for her American Girl doll since she's going to be my flower girl (one of them, I have two flower girls and two ring bearers because I have too many adorable small cousins) and Zach will probably get some sort of toy meant to make kids enjoy engineering at a young age because of Greg's influence. I want to get him Lego's, I've seen him play with them, but 4 and a half might be a tiny bit young for the big fun sets I want to get him. Maybe I'll get my dinosaur loving cousin Abby "The Land Before Time" I loved that movie so much and I got it for Bella last year. Hmmm... kids are fun to shop for. I also want to buy my mom a Nintendo DS and I'm debating between the ice blue and the metallic pink. I should buy it soon because they might sell out. Greg, meh, I'll figure it out.

Well my rotations are over for the year. Hooray! However I now need to do the project I procrastinated on for way too long by January. What I really need to do is call the FDA, the EPA, the state police, the local police, and the legal representative for the state pharmacy association. I really really hate calling people. Technically I could write up a slapdash report without a lot of references and get a B or even a C on it and be just fine because I have 15, probably 20 hours of A already this year to add to the ol' GPA. But I feel bad because I'm doing this for somebody else and I want to do a good job for them, but I don't want to work all through my break. Decisions, decisions.

Wedding's going, Grandma pretty much called me fat and told me I wouldn't fit in my dress. It's a good thing she's a crazy old lady and I know it, but it still made me feel really bad, especially when she kept praising my cousin's fiancee (he's the favored grandchild, but still) and how cute her figure is and how much more prepared and organized she is compared to me. Funny, she has a church and a reception venue and that's it, and said she felt like she was way behind compared to us. Anyways, long story short, Grandma's crazy.

And last but not least, the job hunt is underway. Walgreens will totally hire me and give me a sign on bonus. Schnucks seems interested, but I need to call them to set up an interview (I got my first interview suit, I feel like such an adult! Also it's ridiculously cute, even if I need the pants hemmed and the jacket let out a bit in the boob area. But the skirt part is adorable!). Wal-Mart St. Louis has no openings right now but they'll be reevaluating in January. I'm like, well since I won't be licensed until probably July or August, that's cool) Wal-Mart Metro East just called me when I was out of town for Thanksgiving so I'll call them back tomorrow. And hospitals won't be starting their hiring process until January most likely and I want to wait to hear from Children's, Cardinal Glennon, and St. John's Mercy (preferably their new Children's Hospital) before I accept any offers. Though one of the big chain retailers would be pretty nice if Greg were to get transferred...

I'm attempting to be a good class officer too. I need to come up with an inexpensive class gift we can give to the school as a kind of legacy from the inaugural class. We have a medicinal garden and I found a fairly nice concrete bench that can be engraved with a message from us for well within our budget. I also like the idea of planting a tree with a plaque from us. Other options are a stepping stone for the garden (I like the utility of a bench more), a stained glass window (pretty but expensive, and what to put on there?), or a "trophy case" to showcase honors and awards the school has received (which we have quite a few already for being a brand new school. Our first year a student placed in the top ten for the National Patient Counseling Competition, our third year a student placed third in the nation in the same contest, two students won the National Clinical Skills Competition and we've received awards from APhA for our involvement and all sorts of junk) but unfortunately a crappy case is about twice our budget and we don't want a crappy curio cabinet looking thing, we'd like something nice.

I need to write an entry about work and the crazy you can encounter on a Saturday night at your local 24 hour Walgreens. Maybe I'll do that later tonight if my Benadryl doesn't kick in before then.
